For gardeners seeking the first tomato of the season, Stupice is one of the earliest and most cold-tolerant varieties without compromising crop quality.
Although the fruit is medium-small, it has a surprisingly full, balanced flavour more often associated with much later summer varieties: fresh, juicy and classically tomato-scented.
Originating in former Czechoslovakia, it reached the international market in the 40s, around 1944.
Plant: Compact and tall-growing, with potato-leaf foliage and exceptional tolerance of cooler weather.
Growing period: 52 days after transplanting.
