Description

A Chinese inherited variety that reached Western gardeners by a remarkable route: in 2009, Bulgarian collector Hristo Hristov listed it in the Seed Savers Exchange yearbook, from which it received its English name.

The 30–90 g fruit is deep purple-red with emerald-green stripes that give it the appearance of a semi-precious stone.
Its flavour profile is delicately mild, with light nutty notes and a fruity finish.

Exceptionally productive and early ripening, it is suited to regions with shorter growing seasons.
